Effective Ways of Making a House Comfortable During the Summer

When someone has only just moved into some Green Bay and N.E. Wisconsin real estate, they might not know all of the ins and outs of the home. This means that they are probably not going to have everything prepared to be able to handle the warm summer weather that is on the way.

When it comes to Green Bay and N.E. Wisconsin real estate, the summer weather can get notoriously hot. Therefore, it is important that someone who is either looking for a new home or has recently purchased a home with the help of Green Bay and N.E. Wisconsin realtors know what steps to take to properly prepare their new place for the oncoming heat. Luckily, when it comes to real estate in Green Bay and N.E. Wisconsin, these few simple steps is all it should take to make a home far more comfortable during the summer months.

Get Blackout Blinds

Although they are not incredibly common in older homes, a lot of newer homes are starting to be built with blackout blinds already installed. This is something that is handy to have all-year-round but is especially important during the summer months.

These specialty blinds are made with dark material that is able to successfully mute any light that tries to come into the home. Therefore, if someone has their blackout blinds fully close in any room, then it can make the area seem like it is the middle of the night, even if it is incredibly bright outside.

A lot of people tend to get this if someone in their home works shift work that often has them working at night and trying to sleep during the day. However, even if this isn’t something that a family has to deal with, it is still very handy to have these blackout blinds since they can help to stop any sunlight from entering certain parts of the home during the day.

With the heat from the sun being transported in its rays of light, blocking the sunlight also means blocking the heat. Therefore, anyone who has some blackout blinds in their home and keeps them closed for most of the day will help to minimize the amount of heat that is being transferred into the home due to the sun.

And the homeowner doesn’t need to worry if the homes are being shown by their realtors in Green Bay and N.E. Wisconsin does not already have blackout blinds. They are incredibly easy to buy and can even be installed without any professional help so the person can easily swap out the existing window coverings for the far superior blackout blinds.

Purchase a Bunch of LED Bulbs

This is once again something that most newer homes will not need since they should already be equipped with nothing but LED bulbs. However, if someone has recently purchased or is looking at older homes, then there is a very good chance that they may still be equipped with at least a few incandescent light bulbs. This is going to be an issue for several reasons.

Although the summertime means more sunshine, which results in fewer hours where additional lighting will be needed, someone is still going to need to have sufficient artificial lighting installed throughout their home for the early mornings and late nights. And if the home only has incandescent bulbs, then this is going to result in the utility bill being much more expensive than it needs to be. This is because these bulbs require significantly more power than LED bulbs and will run up the electricity bill quite quickly.

But even more important during the summer months is the fact that incandescent bulbs give off quite a bit of heat when being used. Anyone who has attempted to touch an incandescent bulb even several minutes after turning it off will know that they are able to reach incredibly warm temperatures.

LED bulbs do not reach nearly as high temperatures, which means that they are not going to be warming up a person’s home nearly as fast, even if they have every light turned on at the exact same time. This will come in handy during a time when the inside of the home will already be very warm.

Get Energy Efficient Appliances and Use Them at Night

It is not just the light bulbs that someone should upgrade if they decide to buy some older Green Bay and N.E. Wisconsin real estate. Older appliances also tend to generate a lot of heat, especially when compared to the appliances made nowadays. Therefore, every time that someone does a load of laundry or cooks a meal, it is going to be heating up their home at an alarming rate. This is going to make it significantly harder to keep the inside of the house at a comfortable temperature during the summer months.

That is why the homeowner should be proactive about this issue and replace any really old appliances with more modern versions. The energy efficiency of the latest appliances being sold will result in far less heat generation while being used, which means that the person does not need to worry as much about their home becoming uncomfortably warm during the summer.

If they want to make this strategy even more effective, then they should try to only use these appliances at night if possible. By this time, the sun will have set and the outside temperature will have significantly cooled down. This means it shouldn’t be as big of a deal if the appliances raise the internal temperature of the home by a couple of degrees.

Even waiting later in the evening will make a substantial difference throughout the summer. So instead of cooking dinner at 5 p.m., they might want to push back dinner to 6:30 p.m. during the summer and only start the dryer or dishwasher around 9 p.m. or even 10 p.m. in order to ensure that the home has had some time to properly cool off.
